Hiroshi Shimodaira, lecturer, University of Edinburgh

speaker Dr. Shimodaira is currently a lecturer of School of Informatics, and a member of Centre for Speech Technology Research (CSTR), University of Edinburgh. Before he joined CSTR in 2004, he was an associate professor and co-director of Intelligent Information Processing Laboratory, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST). He received his Ph.D. in 1988 from Tohoku University. His research fields cover speech recognition, lifelike-conversational agents, on-line handwriting recognition, and medical image processing. He is currently interested in statistical models for controlling talking faces, and being involved in the EU FP7 NoE project, "SSPNet: Social Signal Processing Network".
